Namaste Care for people with advanced dementia

Namaste Care for People Living with Advanced Dementia: A Practical Guide for Carers and Professionals is a new book written by Nicola Kendall and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.

Namaste Care is a therapeutic approach to caring for people living with advanced dementia. This step-by-step guide is aimed at readers who are interested in applying the principles of the Namaste Care approach in a home or care setting, with an emphasis on the value of volunteers in the community in implementing this.

The author has led a Namaste Care Project at St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham (UK), which involved volunteers supporting people with advanced dementia in the community. Many of the chapters are written by participants involved in some way with this project.

The book covers a long list of aspects including an introduction to Namaste Care, advanced dementia, the role of volunteers, initial assessments, life stories, the psychological needs of people with advanced dementia, sensory stimulation, communication, planning Namaste Care sessions and more.

The book is available in Australia from Footprint Books footprint.com.au for $37.99.
