The Australian Journal of Dementia Care (AJDC) welcomes article submissions relevant to the care of people living with dementia from practitioners, researchers and people with a lived experience of dementia. The AJDC provides independent peer review (single-blind/author-blind) for articles.

Articles may be published in the quarterly AJDC print editions and/or in the Online First section. Selected articles from the print editions may also appear on the AJDC website. With the author/s’ permission, selected articles may also feature in the AJDC Journal Club Discussion Guide, distributed to selected subscribers. You can learn more about the Journal here.

Selected articles from each print edition will also be published on the AJDC website. We welcome contributions from those who have never written before, as much as from experienced writers, and our editorial team is happy to support contributors in the writing process. The AJDC is also committed to supporting early-career dementia researchers to build their skills and share their work, as well as including the voices of people with a lived experience of dementia and those who support them.

Research Focus

Up to 3000 words, including references

An in-depth article which describes a research study or body of research and its application/relevance to practice or policy. It An in-depth article which describes a research study or body of research and its application/relevance to practice or policy. It should be written in a way that makes the learning from the research accessible to non-academics – drawing practitioners’ attention to new evidence and key points that can inform practice (and how the research findings or intervention could be implemented by others, if possible). The article can follow academic research style (with Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion/Recommendations sub-heads), or a more informal narrative style. If it’s a narrative piece, then results should be summarised as part of the narrative.

Feature

Up to 3000 words, including references

These articles allow more scope for depth and analysis of a particular topic. They can discuss a case study, a survey, a service reorganisation, a new project, a service evaluation, a research project, a major publication or campaign, or share good practice on a particular topic (for example, pain management).

Project update

800-2000 words

Describes a special project, the development of a new and different service, intervention or campaign or the reorganisation of an existing service that resulted in positive outcomes for people with dementia and/or their carers. The aim is for practitioners to share the story of their work, focusing on what is new or different about the project.

Literature review

Up to 2000 words, including references

A summary/abstract of research relevant to dementia care that highlights key messages for practice.

Topic Explainer

500-800 words

A short, easy-to-read and understand explanation of a specific dementia-related topic.

Book Review

Up to 500 words

Introduces readers to a new book of significance in dementia care: report on its key content and audience, and comment on its readability and applicability to practice.

Letter to the Editor

Up to 500 words

The AJDC welcomes Letters to the Editors on any subject related to dementia. Letters may be edited, with the writer’s permission, before publication.

Comment

Up to 800 words

Express your view of a topic related to dementia care practice – controversial or otherwise.

All articles should be submitted via our easy-to-use online Manuscript Manager system. When you are ready, click the ‘Submit article’ button below. A new browser window will open where you can log in to the system. First-time users will need to create an account.
